        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the PARTNERS program and designating April 27, 2001, as
     2     "PARTNERS Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The PARTNERS program is a unique urban-suburban
     4  school partnership program which pairs first through eighth
     5  grade classes from Philadelphia public schools with their
     6  suburban school counterparts to pursue yearlong academic
     7  activities and bridge-building social interaction; and
     8     WHEREAS, The PARTNERS program has successfully linked city
     9  and suburban students, teachers, parents and schools for ten
    10  years, currently reaching 1,800 students and 60 teachers from 29
    11  schools; and
    12     WHEREAS, The PARTNERS program has improved racial relations
    13  in the greater Philadelphia area, enabling the students to
    14  transcend the barriers and stereotypes which stand between


     1  African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic and white urban and
     2  suburban youth; and
     3     WHEREAS, The student participants learn to interact
     4  comfortably with people of different backgrounds and to view the
     5  world from multiple perspectives; and
     6     WHEREAS, The PARTNERS program was featured as an exemplary
     7  human relations program by the Pennsylvania Human Relations
     8  Commission; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
    10  PARTNERS program and designate April 27, 2001, as "PARTNERS Day"
    11  in Pennsylvania.
