        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 21, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of April 2 through 8, 2001, as "Public Health
     2     Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, "Public Health Awareness Week" is a community
     4  outreach effort to deliver health promotion messages directly to
     5  the community, ensuring that the general public and
     6  professionals have an opportunity to participate in the program
     7  and improve their understanding of and appreciation for the
     8  vital impact public health has upon shaping a healthier future;
     9  and
    10     WHEREAS, The audiences for "Public Health Awareness Week"


     1  include the community, public health professionals, legislators,
     2  community agencies, professional associations and the media; and
     3     WHEREAS, Public health services benefit the entire population
     4  of this Commonwealth and cross all ethnic, socioeconomic and
     5  individual family and social strata of our communities; and
     6     WHEREAS, Public knowledge and awareness of healthful
     7  behaviors are cost effective and contribute significantly to the
     8  reduction of needless physical and emotional suffering; and
     9     WHEREAS, An annual celebration of "Public Health Awareness
    10  Week" in this Commonwealth will increase awareness and
    11  understanding of the importance of a strong public health
    12  policy; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
    14  of April 2 through 8, 2001, as "Public Health Awareness Week" in
    15  Pennsylvania.
