        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 13, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the Borough of Phoenixville on its 150th
     2     anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is always pleased
     4  to recognize those esteemed communities which contribute to
     5  Pennsylvania's great heritage; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Borough of Phoenixville is celebrating the
     7  momentous occasion of its 150th anniversary throughout 1999; and
     8     WHEREAS, The land for Phoenixville was purchased from William
     9  Penn in 1730 by Moses Coates, one of the first settlers in the
    10  area, and, by the time of the American Revolution, 66 households
    11  had been established; and
    12     WHEREAS, The era of iron began in 1790, and over the next 200
    13  years the iron industry was a key factor in the growth and


     1  prosperity of Phoenixville and brought a rich cross section of
     2  people to the area; and
     3     WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1849, the Borough of Phoenixville
     4  has been blessed with dedicated leaders who have helped it to
     5  grow and flourish, as well as diligent and productive citizens
     6  who have helped it to become an inspiring presence in this
     7  Commonwealth; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
     9  Borough of Phoenixville upon its 150th anniversary and offer
    10  best wishes for continued growth and prosperity in the years to
    11  come; and be it further
    12     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    13  the Borough of Phoenixville, 140 Church Street, Phoenixville,
    14  Pennsylvania 19460.
