        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring March 2005 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, On March 17, 2005, the Irish community in this
     4  Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the
     5  glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and
     6     WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, Make Us a Eucharistic People" will be
     7  this year's theme; and
     8     WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
     9  in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores

     1  penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a
     2  future in which they and their children would enjoy the
     3  bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of
     4  liberty and justice for all; and
     5     WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish
     6  Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the
     7  political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and
     8     WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this
     9  Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March
    11  2005 to be "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and
    12  extend its felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community
    13  in this Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it
    14  further
    15     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the
    16  Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D., Upper Merrion Street, Dublin,
    17  Ireland and Leonard Armstrong, Pennsylvania Ancient Order of
    18  Hibernians, 1341 N. Delaware Avenue, Suite 404 A, Philadelphia,
    19  Pennsylvania 19135.
