INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 4, 2001
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating April 18, 2001, as "Amateur Radio Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Radio amateurs, through their interest in 4 communications and technology, spark experimentation and 5 innovation using the radio spectrum; and 6 WHEREAS, Radio amateurs recognize the importance of promoting 7 this global resource to provide communication, technical 8 training and humanitarian relief throughout the world, 9 particularly in developing countries; and 10 WHEREAS, Youth recruitment reinforces the interests of 11 amateur radio and the outlook of radio communications in this 12 digital age; and 13 WHEREAS, Radio amateurs have applied their skills to 14 broadcasting, mobile and satellite telecommunications and have 15 been leaders in developing high-frequency digital radio 16 communication; and
1 WHEREAS, Radio amateurs throughout the world are most unified 2 in providing emergency preparedness, response and relief in the 3 event of natural disasters; and 4 WHEREAS, The International Amateur Radio Union has observed 5 April 18 as "World Amateur Radio Day" since 1981 in recognition 6 of the union's founding in Paris, France, on that date in 1925; 7 therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April 9 18, 2001, as "Amateur Radio Day" in Pennsylvania.
