A RESOLUTION 1 Calling on the City of Philadelphia to install flashing warning 2 lights in addition to school zone signs in front of all 3 elementary school buildings to warn drivers of school zones 4 and the need to reduce their speed. 5 WHEREAS, The safety of our children walking to and from 6 school buildings has been acknowledged by the General Assembly 7 by the requirement for municipalities to erect signs designating 8 a school zone; and 9 WHEREAS, Drivers continue to risk the lives of children each 10 and every day by ignoring these posted signs and maintaining an 11 unsafe speed through school zones; and 12 WHEREAS, Law enforcement officials and school administrators 13 must continue to address this problem, particularly in the City 14 of Philadelphia in high traffic areas; and 15 WHEREAS, No child's life should be placed in jeopardy for the 16 failure to properly designate these zones through the 17 installation of flashing warning signs much like those found 18 across the country and in Pennsylvania; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives call on the City 2 of Philadelphia to erect and maintain flashing warning lights in 3 front of every elementary school building; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the City of Philadelphia work in cooperation 5 with the Department of Transportation to identify where flashing 6 lights are needed immediately to prevent any senseless tragedies 7 in the future.
