        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 20, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the life and extending condolences for the supreme
     2     sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Jae S. Moon of the United States
     3     Army's Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment,
     4     2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson,
     5     Colorado, who tragically lost his life while bravely serving
     6     his country on December 25, 2006.

     7     WHEREAS, During his second tour of duty in Operation Iraqi
     8  Freedom, Staff Sgt. Jae S. Moon was killed while on a
     9  reconnaissance patrol in southern Baghdad when an improvised
    10  explosive devise detonated near the vehicle in which he was
    11  riding; and
    12     WHEREAS, In an act of selflessness, Staff Sgt. Moon had
    13  volunteered for duty that day so that a friend and fellow
    14  soldier could benefit from a day of rest; and

     1     WHEREAS, Two of Staff Sgt. Moon's fellow soldiers perished in
     2  the tragic events which claimed his life; and
     3     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Moon, from the Levittown section of
     4  Middletown Township, Bucks County, was posthumously awarded the
     5  Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Overseas Service Ribbon
     6  and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant; and
     7     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Moon, who was 21 years of age and a 2003
     8  graduate of Neshaminy High School, was respected and admired for
     9  his community service efforts and was known as a man of profound
    10  character; and
    11     WHEREAS, When asked what mattered most in his life, Staff
    12  Sgt. Moon answered "family"; and
    13     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Moon will be remembered as a caring and
    14  thoughtful young man who listened to his parents, respected his
    15  elders and cherished his friends; and
    16     WHEREAS, It is appropriate to commemorate the honorable,
    17  courageous and loving manner in which Staff Sgt. Moon lived;
    18  therefore be it
    19     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
    20  and extend condolences for the supreme sacrifice of Staff Sgt.
    21  Jae S. Moon, who died December 25, 2006, in Iraq, while bravely
    22  serving his country; and be it further
    23     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    24  the family of Staff Sgt. Jae S. Moon, 1 Dolphin Road, Levittown
    25  PA 19056-1007.
