INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 26, 1999
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing May 10, 1999, as "National YMCA Older Adult Day." 2 WHEREAS, The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) is 3 joining in a celebration of "National Older Adults Day," which 4 honors this special age group, on May 10, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, The YMCA is encouraging older adults to get involved 6 with a variety of opportunities, including volunteering, 7 mentoring and fitness programs designed specifically for older 8 adults, by designating May 10, 1999, as "National YMCA Older 9 Adult Day"; and 10 WHEREAS, Studies show that older adults are seeking more than 11 physical benefits when they begin exercising; they also want a 12 sense of community and to strengthen social ties; and
1 WHEREAS, In response to this need, the YMCA has developed 2 several activities to encourage and motivate older adults to 3 take action and get involved; and 4 WHEREAS, The YMCA strives to create a year-round atmosphere 5 of caring and support, including special health and fitness 6 programs for older adults; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 10, 8 1999, as "National YMCA Older Adult Day" and commend the efforts 9 of the YMCA to support and celebrate older adults in 10 Pennsylvania.
