                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for coal heritage commemorative
     3     registration plates.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 1361.  Coal heritage commemorative registration plate.
     9     (a)  Plate.--The department, in consultation with the
    10  Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, shall design a
    11  coal heritage commemorative registration plate. Upon application
    12  of any person, accompanied by a fee of $35 which shall be in
    13  addition to the annual registration fee, the department shall
    14  issue the plate for a passenger car, motor home, trailer or
    15  truck with a registered gross weight of not more than 9,000


     1  pounds.
     2     (b)  Use of fee.--Of each fee paid under subsection (a), $15
     3  shall be deposited into the Coal Heritage Account, which is
     4  established as a special account in the Historical Preservation
     5  Fund of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for
     6  nonprofit and government-owned coal mining sites and museums and
     7  their affiliate tunnels. The commission shall administer the
     8  account as follows:
     9         (1)  To promote coal heritage.
    10         (2)  To preserve, maintain and operate nonprofit and
    11     government-owned coal mining sites and museums and their
    12     affiliate tunnels.
    13         (3)  After making a determination that there has been
    14     compliance with paragraph (1) for a fiscal year, to
    15     contribute to the fund.
    16     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
