        INTRODUCED BY PETRONE, MURPHY, McNALLY, KAISER, DeLUCA, TRELLO,
           GIGLIOTTI, OLASZ, MICHLOVIC, LEVDANSKY, VAN HORNE, COWELL,
           DeWEESE, MRKONIC, GAMBLE, MARKOSEK, MAYERNIK AND PISTELLA,
           JUNE 30, 1989

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 30, 1989

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing Congress to establish an ecological zone of
     2     safety, extending 100 miles from the nation's shores, within
     3     which all oil tankers would be escorted by a coast guard
     4     vessel.

     5     WHEREAS, Oil spills from tankers off the shores of the United
     6  States are becoming an ever-increasing problem; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     8  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize Congress to establish
     9  an ecological zone of safety extending 100 miles from the
    10  nation's shoreline, and to require every oil tanker to be
    11  escorted by a coast guard vessel when it is within the safety
    12  zone; and be it further
    13     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    14  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
    15  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
