                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Observing the week of April 22 through 28, 2007, as "Crime
     2     Victims' Rights Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, A violent crime is committed in the United States
     4  every 23.1 seconds; and
     5     WHEREAS, Each year 24 million Americans are victimized by
     6  crime, 5.2 million of whom are victims of violent crime; and
     7     WHEREAS, Crime victims play an indispensable role in bringing
     8  offenders to justice; and
     9     WHEREAS, Law-abiding citizens are no less deserving of
    10  justice, rights, resources, restoration and rehabilitation than
    11  the violent offenders who victimize them; and
    12     WHEREAS, Crime victims and their advocates over the past two

     1  decades have made unparalleled progress toward balancing the
     2  scales of justice in our criminal justice system; and
     3     WHEREAS, The millions of survivors of crime and their
     4  families and advocates deserve justice; and
     5     WHEREAS, As a nation devoted to liberty and justice for all,
     6  the United States must increase its efforts to protect, restore
     7  and expand crime victims' rights; and
     8     WHEREAS, Victim service providers, criminal justice officials
     9  and concerned citizens throughout our nation are joining
    10  together to observe "National Crime Victims' Rights Week";
    11  therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the week
    13  of April 22 through 28, 2007, as "Crime Victims' Rights Week" in
    14  Pennsylvania; and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives reaffirm its
    16  commitment to address victims' rights and criminal justice
    17  issues during "Crime Victims' Rights Week" and throughout the
    18  year.
