A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of April 2007 as "Parkinson's Disease 2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is believed to affect 1 million 4 people in the United States, which is more than the combined 5 number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular 6 dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease; and 7 WHEREAS, Approximately 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with 8 Parkinson's disease each year, and this number does not reflect 9 the thousands of cases that go undetected; and 10 WHEREAS, Incidence of Parkinson's disease increases with age, 11 but an estimated 15% of people with Parkinson's disease are 12 diagnosed before 50 years of age; and 13 WHEREAS, The cause of Parkinson's disease is not known; and
1 WHEREAS, Scientists and researchers are working diligently to 2 uncover the possible causes of Parkinson's disease, including 3 genetics and environmental factors; and 4 WHEREAS, Presently there is no known cure for Parkinson's 5 disease; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 7 month of April 2007 as "Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month" in 8 Pennsylvania.
