        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 14, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of May 5 through 9, 2003, as "Teacher
     2     Appreciation Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, A strong, effective system of free public school
     4  education for all children and youth is essential to our
     5  democratic system of government; and
     6     WHEREAS, The United States has made considerable progress in
     7  social, technological and scientific fields through our system
     8  of free and universal public education; and
     9     WHEREAS, Much of this progress can be attributed to the
    10  qualified and dedicated teachers entrusted with educating our

     1  children to their full potential; and
     2     WHEREAS, Teachers should be accorded high public esteem in
     3  keeping with the value of public education in our communities;
     4  and
     5     WHEREAS, Students, parents, public officials and citizens
     6  nationwide are keenly aware of the importance and impact of
     7  teachers on children; and
     8     WHEREAS, It is appropriate that teachers be recognized for
     9  their dedication and commitment to educating students; therefore
    10  be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join with the
    12  National Parent Teacher Association in designating the week of
    13  May 5 through 9, 2003, as "Teacher Appreciation Week" in
    14  Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to pay tribute to our public
    15  school teachers.
