A RESOLUTION 1 Designating September 12, 2007, as "Emergency Responder Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, al Qaeda terrorists hijacked 4 and intentionally flew two planes into the twin towers of the 5 World Trade Center in Manhattan and hijacked and crashed a third 6 aircraft into the United States Department of Defense 7 headquarters at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia; and 8 WHEREAS, The first battle of the global war on terrorism took 9 place in the skies over Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and was
1 ultimately won by the heroism of the passengers aboard United 2 Airlines Flight 93 who courageously fought to regain control of 3 the plane and prevented further death and destruction; and 4 WHEREAS, These attacks claimed nearly 3,000 innocent lives, 5 including many emergency responders who unselfishly answered the 6 call to duty; and 7 WHEREAS, On September 12, 2001, the emergency responder 8 community of our great nation took pause to reflect upon the 9 heroic efforts of their fellow emergency responders who were 10 killed in the line of duty during the attacks of 9/11; and 11 WHEREAS, Their acts of courage and sacrifice for our country 12 are worthy of acknowledgment and commendation, and they shall 13 remain in our hearts and minds forever, their remembrance 14 continuing to be passed on to future generations; therefore be 15 it 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate 17 September 12, 2007, as "Emergency Responder Day" in 18 Pennsylvania, setting aside this day as a day of gratitude and 19 profound respect for all past and present firefighters, public 20 safety providers, ambulance drivers, emergency medical 21 technicians, emergency dispatchers, first response teams, police 22 officers and all emergency and disaster responders in this 23 Commonwealth and affirming that these heroes help our citizens 24 every day in extraordinary ways.
