A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the Department of Defense to allow elected State 2 officials who are members of the National Guard or Reserve 3 Forces to be candidates for and hold elective office while on 4 active duty. 5 WHEREAS, It can be argued that the Commonwealth of 6 Pennsylvania is the ultimate authority concerning who may be 7 candidates for and who may hold elective office for both State 8 and local offices in Pennsylvania; and 9 WHEREAS, The Department of Defense has issued Directive 10 (DoDD) 1344.10 which provides that a member on active duty shall 11 not be a candidate for, or hold, civil office except as 12 authorized in limited circumstances; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 14 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Department of Defense to 15 allow elected State officials who are members of the National 16 Guard and Reserve Forces to be candidates for and to hold
