        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 23, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of May 2001 as "Good Chemistry Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant
     4  contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing
     5  71,000 people; and
     6     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
     7  exports $3.9 billion in products annually; and
     8     WHEREAS, The value of industry production by the business of
     9  chemistry in this Commonwealth is $19.3 billion; and
    10     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
    11  offers family-sustaining jobs averaging $66,899; and
    12     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
    13  provides support to numerous endowments, foundations and
    14  scholarship organizations throughout this Commonwealth; and


     1     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a leader in safety with
     2  a safety performance record 4.5 times above the average of all
     3  other United States manufacturing industries combined; and
     4     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this nation's largest
     5  investor in private sector funding of research and development
     6  initiatives and chemistry industry scientists and researchers
     7  account for one in seven patents filed in the United States
     8  every year; and
     9     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth has
    10  reduced core toxic reduction inventory emissions by 68% since
    11  1988; and
    12     WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry enhances our
    13  everyday quality of life by providing potable water, medicines,
    14  clothing, housing and transportation; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representative designate the
    16  month of May 2001 as "Good Chemistry Month" in Pennsylvania.
