A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing October 7, 1999, as "Dairy Farmers Appreciation Day" 2 in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The dairy industry is the leading agricultural 4 industry in this Commonwealth, accounting for over 37% of all 5 income derived from agriculture and generating over $1.53 6 billion in revenues to Pennsylvania's economy; and 7 WHEREAS, Nearly $46.8 million in dairy products are exported 8 from Pennsylvania annually; and 9 WHEREAS, There are 10,200 commercial dairy farms in 10 Pennsylvania and over 50,000 residents employed in the dairy
1 industry; and 2 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania currently ranks fourth nationally in 3 milk production, second in frozen dairy manufacturing, fourth in 4 butter manufacturing and sixth in cheese manufacturing; and 5 WHEREAS, Milk is Pennsylvania's official beverage, and dairy 6 farmers produce over 10.7 billion pounds of milk annually, 7 nearly 7% of the total milk production in the United States; and 8 WHEREAS, Dairy farm families continue to produce and promote 9 quality products for the nutritional enjoyment of consumers; and 10 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's dairy industry is a source of pride 11 for citizens across this Commonwealth and the nation who have 12 the opportunity to view the picturesque farms and savor the food 13 products; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 15 accomplishments of dairy farm families and the dairy industry 16 and recognize October 7, 1999, as "Dairy Farmers Appreciation 17 Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives call upon the 19 people of Pennsylvania to celebrate "Dairy Farmers Appreciation 20 Day" and to salute dairy farm families and the dairy industry 21 for their contributions to Pennsylvania agriculture and for 22 their dedication to quality.
