INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 1, 1997
A RESOLUTION 1 Commemorating the founding of Muncy Borough, Lycoming County, 2 200 years ago, in 1797, and proclaiming October 11, 1997, as 3 the official birthday of Muncy. 4 WHEREAS, The Borough of Muncy was created out of lands owned 5 by brothers James and Isaac Walton and their cousins, also 6 brothers, William and Benjamin McCarty in 1797, and this 7 settlement, carved from lands known as Muncy Manor, was called 8 Muncy; and 9 WHEREAS, Out of admiration for William Penn, the town was 10 renamed Pennsborough; and 11 WHEREAS, In 1827 the name of the town was changed back to 12 Muncy, a name for the Wolf Clan of the Delaware Indian tribe, 13 the Monsey Indians; and
1 WHEREAS, Muncy is proud of its heritage and is working toward 2 progress for the future while preserving the town's rich history 3 within the walls of the Muncy Historical Society and Museum of 4 History; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the 6 200th Anniversary of the founding of Muncy, proclaim October 11, 7 1997, as Muncy's birthday and urge all citizens to enjoy the 8 activities in the Muncy Museum of History and celebrate with all 9 residents the rich and diverse history of the past 200 years 10 that is Muncy's.
