INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 4, 1999
A RESOLUTION 1 Commending the Governor for proclaiming the month of October 2 1999 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" and October 15, 1999, 3 as "National Mammography Day" in this Commonwealth and urging 4 all citizens of this Commonwealth to join in its observance 5 by renewing their awareness of breast cancer and by becoming 6 knowledgeable about the most current medical developments 7 regarding this tragic disease. 8 WHEREAS, This year, more than 178,700 women in the United 9 States will learn for the first time that they have breast 10 cancer, and more than 43,900 women, including more than 2,500 11 women in this Commonwealth, will die of breast cancer; and 12 WHEREAS, Early detection and prompt treatment can 13 significantly reduce the suffering and death caused by this 14 disease; and
1 WHEREAS, Mammography, an X-ray of the breast, is the single 2 most effective method of detecting breast changes that may be 3 cancer, long before physical symptoms can be seen or felt; 4 therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the 6 Governor for proclaiming the month of October 1999 as "Breast 7 Cancer Awareness Month" and October 15, 1999, as "National 8 Mammography Day" in this Commonwealth; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all women 10 and their families to get the facts about mammography; and be it 11 further 12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 13 Governor Thomas J.
