A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring October 7, 1999, as "Celebrate the Gift of Aging Day" 2 in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Aging brings with it a perspective on what is 4 essential for happiness and what has lasting value; and 5 WHEREAS, The United Nations has declared 1999 as the 6 "International Year of Older Persons" to reflect on the gifts 7 that a long life can reveal to all generations; and 8 WHEREAS, The Little Sisters of the Poor serves 250 9 independent homes for the elderly poor in 30 counties of this 10 Commonwealth by providing independent living apartments, 11 personal care and nursing care; and 12 WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Community of the Little Sisters of 13 the Poor has cared for more than 10,000 elderly poor persons
1 regardless of race, color, religion, sex, handicap or national 2 origin; and 3 WHEREAS, The Little Sisters of the Poor is hosting a 4 symposium in Pittsburgh titled "Celebrating the Gift of Aging" 5 on October 7, 1999; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare October 7 7, 1999, as "Celebrate the Gift of Aging Day" in Pennsylvania.
