        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 5, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 2001 as "Random Acts of Kindness Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The impact of the fatal shots fired in Littleton,
     4  Colorado, on April 20, 1999, still vibrates in the hearts of
     5  communities and parents; and
     6     WHEREAS, Facing bewilderment and fear about children killing
     7  children, people are seeking ways to prevent violence by
     8  promoting consideration for others; and
     9     WHEREAS, Recently the small northwestern town of Thompson
    10  Falls, Montana, banded together to create an environment of
    11  kindness within their community and, without expecting a reward,
    12  the citizens in that community gave their time or talents and a
    13  special Random Act of Kindness card, which asked recipients to


     1  pass along the card and extend a kindness to others; and
     2     WHEREAS, The simple format of giving inspired free car
     3  washes, free food, a sidewalk litter cleanup, painting community
     4  facilities and blessings that transformed the town, and these
     5  simple acts transformed the attitudes of those who gave; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce is declaring
     7  October as "Random Acts of Kindness Month" to unite schools,
     8  businesses, senior communities, service organizations and places
     9  of worship under a vision to ignite the spirit of generosity in
    10  their community; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
    12  2001 as "Random Acts of Kindness Month" in Pennsylvania.
