INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 2, 2005
A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the players and coaching staff of the Serra Catholic 2 High School Girls Basketball Team for their championship 3 2004-2005 basketball season. 4 WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles players and coaches effectively 5 worked as a team to maintain the number one rank in the Class A 6 division throughout the 2004-2005 basketball season and finished 7 with the exceptional record of 29-1; and 8 WHEREAS, On February 25, 2005, the Lady Eagles led the 9 Clairton Bears during the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic 10 Athletic League Class A Championship game to facilitate a 58-31 11 win and claim the WPIAL title; and 12 WHEREAS, On March 19, 2005, the Lady Eagles gained momentum 13 in the second half of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic 14 Association Class A Championship game to triumph over the Marian
1 Catholic Fillies, 53-44, and bring home their first PIAA Class A 2 title; and 3 WHEREAS, Junior guard Laura Grimm and junior forward Brittany 4 Matta received All-State honors; and 5 WHEREAS, Laura Grimm surpassed the 1,000 point mark this 6 season and was named the Associated Press Class A Player of the 7 Year; and 8 WHEREAS, Serra Catholic Coach Bill Cleary was named both 9 Associated Press Class A Coach of the Year and Pittsburgh 10 Tribune-Review Girls Basketball Coach of the Year; and 11 WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles are only the third girls team within 12 the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League to earn 13 a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A 14 State Champion title; and 15 WHEREAS, The team admirably represented western Pennsylvania 16 athletics in postseason games, warranting the support of and 17 further inspiring sentiment for athletic tradition among members 18 of the community; and 19 WHEREAS, Seniors Nicole Kinkaid and Rachel Lemak; juniors 20 Arynn Frankenberry, Laura Grimm, Brittany Matta, Brandi Redinger 21 and Starr Solomon; sophomores Sarah Campbell, Katie Frederick, 22 Sara Leonatti, Staci Menzies, Athena Miller, Aimee Ossler, 23 Brittany Pero and Amanda Szanca; and freshmen Bria Gwosden, 24 Lauren Pavlecic, Shannon Redinger and Suzy Yandrlic comprised 25 this outstanding team; therefore be it 26 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the players 27 and coaching staff of the Serra Catholic High School Girls 28 Basketball Team for their achievements during the 2004-2005 29 basketball season.
