A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring October 4, 2001, as "Certified Public Accountants Day" 2 in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants are leaders in business 4 and industry, government and education; and 5 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants advise privately owned 6 and publicly held companies, financial institutions, nonprofit 7 organizations, small businesses, individual investors and 8 governmental bodies and agencies; and 9 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants who serve as 10 independent auditors are a cornerstone of our national economy 11 by enabling the public to rely on the fairness of audited
1 financial statements issued by the entire spectrum of entities, 2 including publicly held corporations, nonprofit organizations, 3 governments and "mom and pop" businesses; and 4 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants expand their 5 professional knowledge and keep apprised of changing 6 professional standards and government regulations impacting 7 their diverse clients and the practice of public accounting by 8 complying with a continuing education requirement which enhances 9 their performance in a vital business climate; and 10 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants apply their skills in 11 auditing, taxation, personal financial planning, management 12 policy, information systems, computer operations and other areas 13 in business, government and education to enhance the well-being 14 of organizations and individuals within this Commonwealth; and 15 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants provide the information 16 necessary to determine and evaluate the past, present and future 17 economic activities of a diversity of organizations and assist 18 these organizations in responding to changing business 19 environments in this Commonwealth; and 20 WHEREAS, As important members of a company's management team, 21 Certified Public Accountants are responsible for determining 22 liability to various taxing authorities for income, sales, 23 property and payroll taxes to ensure that taxes are correctly 24 reported and paid; and 25 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants provide a range of 26 services to Pennsylvania businesses and individuals through a 27 variety of positions, including, but not limited to, auditors, 28 tax advisors, computer consultants, personal financial planners, 29 educators, legislators, small business advisors and estate 30 planners; and 20010H0288R2502 - 2 -
1 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants are trained to 2 logically seek out solutions to diverse problems while applying 3 sound, ethical judgments, to accumulate and report on historical 4 financial data in a format and level of detail required by 5 management to make business decisions and analyze a company's 6 future financial needs and to play a key role in national and 7 international capital markets and capital formation; and 8 WHEREAS, Certified Public Accountants donate hundreds of 9 hours to charitable and nonprofit organizations throughout this 10 Commonwealth to improve the quality of life for the citizens of 11 this Commonwealth; and 12 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public 13 Accountants, a professional association of more than 19,500 14 Certified Public Accountants allied to serve the public interest 15 and enhance the accounting profession, is the second oldest and 16 fifth largest certified public accounting state organization in 17 the United States; and 18 WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute 19 of Certified Public Accountants is sponsoring its 24th Annual 20 Distinguished Lecturer Banquet on October 4, 2001; therefore be 21 it 22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its 23 appreciation to Certified Public Accountants in this 24 Commonwealth for the fine work these professionals perform and 25 declare October 4, 2001, as "Certified Public Accountants Day" 26 in Pennsylvania.
