        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 5, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe (V-E) Day
     2     on May 8, 2005.

     3     WHEREAS, On May 8, 1945, World War II came to an end; and
     4     WHEREAS, Sixteen million Americans served in uniform in the
     5  armed forces during this war; and
     6     WHEREAS, Of that number, 405,399 men and women died or were
     7  missing in action; and
     8     WHEREAS, As a result of World War II combat, 26,554
     9  Pennsylvanians died; and
    10     WHEREAS, The gallant deeds and sacrifices of these brave
    11  Americans saved the world from tyranny, genocide and slavery and

     1  earned them the collective mantle of "the Greatest Generation";
     2  and
     3     WHEREAS, Of the 3 million World War II veterans who are alive
     4  today, 250,000 live in this Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, Sadly, we are losing 1,000 of these veterans each
     6  day; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives again recognize
     8  the gallant deeds and brave sacrifices of the Greatest
     9  Generation on May 8, 2005, the 60th anniversary of V-E Day; and
    10  be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That we observe this anniversary with commemorative
    12  events at the Capitol on May 9, 2005.
