A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing The Pennsylvania State University's efforts on its 2 special events recycling programs that involve and benefit 3 the community. 4 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University not only has tens 5 of thousands of students, faculty and staff, it also regularly 6 hosts sporting events and concerts where attendees equal the 7 population of some of this Commonwealth's largest cities; and 8 WHEREAS, The attendees at these events can produce thousands 9 of pounds of waste materials in just a few hours, which waste 10 needs to be collected and recycled; and 11 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University has developed 12 partnerships with its student body, local Boy Scout and Girl 13 Scout troops, members of the community and local companies with 14 programs such as the Beaver Stadium Recycling Effort, the Bryce 15 Jordan Center Recycling Effort, the Four Diamonds Recycling 16 Effort and the Penn State Residence Hall Readership Program; and 17 WHEREAS, These recycling programs not only help protect our 18 Commonwealth's environment, they also raise thousands of dollars
1 of needed funds for programs, including local charities such as 2 the United Way of Centre County, college scholarship programs 3 and the Penn State dance marathon's anticancer drive; and 4 WHEREAS, Universities and stadiums throughout the country 5 have been looking at The Pennsylvania State University for 6 guidance for their special events recycling programs; therefore 7 be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize The 9 Pennsylvania State University and its many community partners 10 for their time and efforts to help protect our environment and 11 to raise money for important causes.
