A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the Centre Region Council of Governments for 30 2 years of outstanding service. 3 WHEREAS, The Centre Region Council of Governments was 4 established on December 2, 1969, as a voluntary association of 5 State College Borough and College, Ferguson, Harris, Halfmoon 6 and Patton townships; and 7 WHEREAS, The primary goal of the Centre Region Council of 8 Governments is to improve the quality of life for the residents 9 of the Centre Region in the face of increasing pressures due to 10 economic and population growth; and 11 WHEREAS, This goal is achieved by combining the 12 municipalities' various resources to meet regional challenges 13 which may be beyond the capability of an individual community; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, Over the last 30 years the Centre Region Council of 16 Governments has grown into a recognized model of 17 intergovernmental cooperation throughout this Commonwealth; and
1 WHEREAS, The cooperative services provided by the Centre 2 Region Council of Governments include Parks and Recreation, 3 Planning, Code Administration, Schlow Memorial Library, Fire 4 Protection, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Welch and Park 5 Forest Pools, Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, Senior Citizens' 6 Center and Administration; and 7 WHEREAS, As a result of this cooperation a higher level of 8 services have been provided to the public at a lower cost and 9 coordinated land use planning among the municipalities has been 10 encouraged; and 11 WHEREAS, The key ingredient to the success of the Centre 12 Region Council of Governments is the involvement and commitment 13 of township and borough officials to the concept of providing 14 public services through voluntary intergovernmental cooperative 15 action; and 16 WHEREAS, The borough and township officials have demonstrated 17 strong and innovative leadership in thinking about issues 18 regionally and in advancing cooperative programs to improve 19 efficiency and reduce costs; therefore be it 20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 21 Centre Region Council of Governments for 30 years of outstanding 22 service to the community and commend the elected and appointed 23 officials for their commitment to developing shared solutions to 24 common problems.
