HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 318 Session of 1999

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, NOVEMBER 17, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the period of December 1, 1999, through January 31,
     2     2000, as a transitional period in Pennsylvania and urging
     3     citizens of this Commonwealth to plan for their prescription
     4     medication needs accordingly.

     5     WHEREAS, Many Pennsylvanians need prescription medication to
     6  maintain their health and quality of life; and
     7     WHEREAS, The conditions that precipitate the need for
     8  prescription medication could last throughout the period of
     9  December 1, 1999, through January 31, 2000; and
    10     WHEREAS, The potential exists that on January 1, 2000,
    11  computers across this Commonwealth could become temporarily
    12  inoperable due to the Y2K computer problem; and
    13     WHEREAS, Because nearly every pharmacy in this Commonwealth
    14  uses computers as a function of business, many citizens could go
    15  without life-sustaining medication; and
    16     WHEREAS, The interruption of the supply of medication may
    17  result in substantial physical or mental discomfort or
    18  undesirable health consequences for the patient; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the citizens
     2  of this Commonwealth to be aware of their prescription needs
     3  during this transitional period of December 1, 1999, through
     4  January 31, 2000, and plan for their prescription medication
     5  needs accordingly by filling or renewing their prescriptions
     6  prior to January 1, 2000.
