        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 3, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, on
     2     the celebration of the 200th anniversary of its founding.

     3     WHEREAS, Lenni Lenape tribesmen favored the area of present-
     4  day Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, for hunting
     5  and for the excellent fishing Perkiomen Creek and Skippack Creek
     6  afforded; and
     7     WHEREAS, Evansburg, settled by English Anglicans as part of
     8  William Penn's Holy Experiment, was conceived in the early 18th
     9  century as one of our nation's first planned villages; and
    10     WHEREAS, Agriculture, industry, copper mining and commerce
    11  thrived during the post-Revolutionary period in the area then
    12  known as Providence Township, which was until September 1784

     1  part of Philadelphia County; and
     2     WHEREAS, Providence Township split in 1805 into Upper
     3  Providence Township and Lower Providence Township; and
     4     WHEREAS, Evansburg as well as the communities of Audubon,
     5  Eagleville, Trooper and Yerkes comprise Lower Providence
     6  Township; and
     7     WHEREAS, Lower Providence Township attractions include a
     8  portion of Valley Forge National Historic Park, Evansburg State
     9  Park and Mill Grove, home of wildlife artist and naturalist John
    10  James Audubon, in the 175-acre Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary;
    11  therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
    13  Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, on the celebration
    14  of the 200th anniversary of its founding.
