AN ACT
1 Amending the act of July 9, 1987 (P.L.220, No.39), entitled "An
2 act licensing and regulating the practice of social work;
3 providing penalties; and making an appropriation," further
4 providing for reciprocity.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Section 10 of the act of July 9, 1987 (P.L.220,
8 No.39), known as the Social Workers' Practice Act, is amended to
9 read:
10 Section 10. [Reciprocity.] Reciprocity or endorsement.
11 [The board shall have the power to grant a reciprocal license
12 to an applicant who is licensed or certified as a social worker
13 in another state and has demonstrated qualifications which equal
14 or exceed those required pursuant to this act in the
15 determination of the board, provided that no license shall be
16 granted under this section to an applicant unless the state in
17 which the applicant is licensed affords reciprocal treatment to
18 persons who are residents of this Commonwealth and who are
1 licensed pursuant to this act.] Reciprocity or endorsement may 2 be established at the discretion of the board. As used in this 3 section, the term "reciprocity" means the act of the board and a 4 licensing authority in another jurisdiction, each recognizing 5 that the requirements for a license or certificate in this 6 Commonwealth and in the other jurisdiction are equivalent, 7 issuing a license or certificate to an applicant who possesses a 8 similar license or certificate in the other jurisdiction. As 9 used in this section, the term "endorsement" means the issuance 10 of a license or certificate by the board to an applicant who 11 does not meet standard requirements, if the applicant has 12 achieved cumulative qualifications which are accepted by the 13 board as being equivalent to the standard requirements for the 14 license or certificate. 15 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. A24L63JRW/19970H0326B0355 - 2 -
