A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the exemplary philanthropic efforts of the Rosebud 2 Mining Company in attaining the highest amount raised by any 3 team in the United States for the Relay For Life event for 4 the American Cancer Society. 5 WHEREAS, The Relay For Life is an annual fundraising event 6 sponsored by the American Cancer Society; and 7 WHEREAS, The annual event calls on individuals, businesses 8 and organizations to contribute their time, talent and resources 9 in bringing teams of volunteers to the event; and 10 WHEREAS, In 2004 the Relay For Life raised more than $17 11 million in this Commonwealth for cancer research, education and 12 patient services; and 13 WHEREAS, In western Pennsylvania alone, 53 separate Relay For 14 Life events are scheduled to occur in 2005; and 15 WHEREAS, Ford City, Armstrong County, is scheduling one of 16 these events for June 18 through 19, 2005, at the Ford City 17 Football Stadium; and 18 WHEREAS, In the Ford City Relay For Life is a team sponsored
1 by the Rosebud Mining Company; and 2 WHEREAS, The Rosebud Mining Company team leads the nation in 3 the amount of fundraising for this type of event, having pledged 4 $160,000, which amount was obtained by the collective efforts of 5 the team leader, Tom Stitt, and the Rosebud Mining Company 6 president and owner, Cliff Forrest; and 7 WHEREAS, The Rosebud Mining Company, as the leader in 8 fundraising for the Relay For Life event, deserves Statewide and 9 national recognition for its philanthropic commitment; therefore 10 be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 12 exemplary philanthropic efforts of the Rosebud Mining Company in 13 attaining the highest amount raised by any team in the United 14 States for the Relay For Life event for the American Cancer 15 Society.
