        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 17, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of March 15 through 20, 1998, as "Women and
     2     Addictions Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" (WAAW) was
     4  established to highlight the special issues faced by women who
     5  struggle with dependence, such as food, relationships, spending,
     6  alcohol, tobacco or drug abuse; and
     7     WHEREAS, Many of these adversities can be hidden from view by
     8  shame, inattention or ignorance; and
     9     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" strives to
    10  send a clear message to all segments of our community that with
    11  the removal of these barriers and with appropriate treatment and
    12  support, women can and do recover; and


     1     WHEREAS, As a prevention campaign, the focus of "Women and
     2  Addictions Awareness Week" is to provide information and
     3  education to avoid potential problems by learning about
     4  alternative choices; and
     5     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" offers support
     6  for individuals who find themselves experiencing a concern about
     7  their own or a loved one's dependency issues; and
     8     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" is held during
     9  the third week of March; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
    11  of March 15 through 20, 1998, as "Women and Addictions Awareness
    12  Week" in Pennsylvania.
