        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 8, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring Butler County on the occasion of its 200th anniversary.

     2     WHEREAS, Butler County was incorporated on March 12, 1800,
     3  and is celebrating the momentous occasion of its 200th
     4  anniversary throughout 2000; and
     5     WHEREAS, Butler County was named after Revolutionary War hero
     6  General Richard Butler; and
     7     WHEREAS, Butler County is a fourth class county comprised of
     8  57 municipalities covering 790 square miles and having a
     9  population of approximately 170,000 residents; and
    10     WHEREAS, The Butler County Bicentennial Celebration, made
    11  possible by the Butler County Commissioners and the Butler


     1  County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and coordinated by a
     2  volunteer board of directors chaired by Dick May, is responsible
     3  for planning and conducting programs and activities to
     4  commemorate the 200th anniversary of Butler County; and
     5     WHEREAS, The Butler County Bicentennial Celebration Board has
     6  developed several limited-edition commemorative items in
     7  celebration of the event, including a hardbound reprint of the
     8  Butler County Centennial program from 1900; and
     9     WHEREAS, The Bicentennial Celebration, which includes the
    10  active participation of 100 volunteers and is being funded
    11  through the generosity of local businesses, individuals and
    12  organizations, commences on March 12, 2000, and concludes on
    13  August 26, 2000; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
    15  Butler County and its residents on the occasion of its 200th
    16  anniversary.
