A RESOLUTION

Honoring Shelleah Jackson for her achievements as an author,

2

speaker and honor roll student.

3

WHEREAS, Shelleah Jackson was born in Philadelphia on August

4

16, 1994; and

5

WHEREAS, By two years of age, Shelleah had developed the

6

ability to read, and by four years of age she had won an Earth

7

Day poetry contest in which hundreds of other students competed;

8

and

9

WHEREAS, Shelleah began working on her first book as a

10

writing exercise in the fourth grade; and

11

WHEREAS, Shelleah participated in the Exchange City program

12

in the fifth grade and was elected to play the role of judge of

13

the mock city based upon her knowledge and interviews; and

14

WHEREAS, In September 2006, Shelleah had published her first

15

book, Stuck in the Middle, which was sold in several bookstore

chains as well as on Internet website venues; and

2

WHEREAS, As a seventh-grade student, Shelleah participated in

3

book signings, radio interviews and television interviews both

4

in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; and

5

WHEREAS, After her book release and publicity tour, Shelleah

6

participated in the America Reads Program and visited numerous

7

schools and literary programs in this Commonwealth; and

8

WHEREAS, In the summer of 2008, Shelleah completed the sequel

9

to her first book, titled Through My Hazelnut Eyes, for which

10

she is planning a book signing tour; and

11

WHEREAS, Shelleah has developed early leadership skills and

12

has twice been nominated to attend the People to People: Future

13

World Leaders and Student Ambassador Law forums in Washington,

14

D.C.; and

15

WHEREAS, Shelleah was most recently a keynote speaker for the

16

Building Future Leaders program at the Redeemer Renaissance

17

Community Development Corporation, where her motivational

18

speaking inspired both teens and adults to pursue their dreams;

19

and

20

WHEREAS, Shelleah is currently a freshman honor roll student

21

attending Wissahickon High School; therefore be it

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Shelleah

23

Jackson for her accomplishments as a young writer, community

24

volunteer, honor student and bright and promising future leader;

25

and be it further

26

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

27

Ms. Shelleah Jackson.
