        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           DECEMBER 12, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of January 13 through 19, 2002, as
     2     "Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The family sport of snowmobiling is enjoyed by more
     4  than 150,000 men, women and children in this Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, Snowmobiling represents a significant element of
     6  winter tourism in this Commonwealth, generating in excess of
     7  $160 million annually; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association and
     9  the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources have joined
    10  together to educate thousands of Pennsylvania's young
    11  snowmobilers and others in the snowmobiling public regarding
    12  safe and responsible snowmobiling for more than 25 years; and
    13     WHEREAS, Employing responsible riding practices, such as


     1  avoiding alcohol and operating at safe speeds, helps make
     2  snowmobiling experiences safe and enjoyable; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     4  week of January 13 through 19, 2002, as "Snowmobile Safety
     5  Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania and, in the interest of safe,
     6  enjoyable snowmobiling, encourage all snowmobilers to take
     7  advantage of snowmobile safety programs and through their action
     8  and example preserve and enhance the family sport of
     9  snowmobiling.
