| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing October 29, February 1 and June 12 each year as |
2 | "Pennsylvania World Championship Days" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, While the citizens of this nation experience stress |
4 | over the current, difficult economic times, they often look to |
5 | competitive sporting events to bring some positive relief from |
6 | that stress; and |
7 | WHEREAS, This Commonwealth rose to the occasion by recently |
8 | serving as the home of four championship professional sports |
9 | teams; and |
10 | WHEREAS, On October 29, 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies won |
11 | the World Series after beating the Tampa Bay Rays in five games |
12 | to claim the franchise's second World Championship; and |
13 | WHEREAS, On February 1, 2009, the Pittsburgh Steelers |
14 | defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 to become the first |
15 | National Football League team to win six Super Bowls; and |
16 | WHEREAS, On June 12, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated |

1 | the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the team's third |
2 | National Hockey League Stanley Cup Championship; and |
3 | WHEREAS, On June 12, 2009, the Hershey Bears captured their |
4 | tenth American Hockey League Calder Cup Championship by |
5 | defeating the Manitoba Moose in six games; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is proud of the excellence these |
7 | teams have demonstrated by achieving the title of champions, |
8 | especially in these difficult economic times; therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October |
10 | 29, February 1 and June 12 each year as "Pennsylvania World |
11 | Championship Days" in Pennsylvania. |
