                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Congress of the United States to authorize
     2     funding for the National Park Service to purchase the
     3     Schwoebel Tract, which lies within the boundaries of the
     4     Valley Forge National Historical Park.

     5     WHEREAS, Approximately 460 acres of the 3,466 acres that
     6  comprise the Valley Forge National Historical Park are privately
     7  owned; and
     8     WHEREAS, A 62-acre tract of the privately owned land is
     9  currently under consideration as the site of a subdivision for
    10  approximately 62 luxury homes; and
    11     WHEREAS, The construction of homes within the Valley Forge
    12  National Historical Park will detract from the historic and
    13  cultural environment the park provides for millions of people
    14  who visit each year; and
    15     WHEREAS, The owners of the 62-acre tract of land are willing


     1  to sell the land to the National Park Service; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the Congress of the United States appropriate
     3  sufficient funds for the National Park Service to purchase the
     4  privately owned 62-acre tract of land, which will help to ensure
     5  the preservation of the park as a national historic site; and be
     6  it further
     7     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     8  the President of the United States, to the United States Senate
     9  and to the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to
    10  each member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
