WHEREAS, The program is a practical school of government
conducted on an education-by-participation basis, the hallmark
and focus of which is an experientially based government
exercise whereby participants take on roles and practice the
procedures and operations in the organization and operation of
mock cities; and
WHEREAS, The hands-on format requires the participants to
form and operate two fictitious political parties; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated group of volunteers teaches students
about the fundamentals of the legislative process, the branches
of government and parliamentary procedure; and
WHEREAS, The students learn lifelong lessons in leadership,
teamwork, advocacy, consensus building and respect; and
WHEREAS, Students leave the program enriched and use what
they learned throughout their lives for the betterment of our
country; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
Pennsylvania American Legion Auxiliary Keystone Girls State
Program, which will be held during the week of June 22, 2015,
and congratulate the Pennsylvania American Legion Auxiliary for
its contributions in supporting and promoting the leadership
skills of promising young Pennsylvanians and enhancing their
understanding of our American form of government through
practical teaching and personal involvement.
