                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing April 3, 1998, as "National Pay Inequity Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, More than three decades after the passage of the
     4  Equal Pay Act of 1963, women continue to suffer from an unfair
     5  gap between the salaries of women and men; and
     6     WHEREAS, Women nationally are paid only 71¢ for each dollar a
     7  man earns; and
     8     WHEREAS, April 3, 1998, is the day on which American women's
     9  wages thus far for 1998, when added to their entire 1997
    10  earnings, finally equal what men earned in 1997; and
    11     WHEREAS, Fair pay is a long-term investment with a big payoff
    12  in terms of stronger employee loyalty, better production and
    13  higher morale; and
    14     WHEREAS, Fair pay strengthens the security of families today
    15  and enhances retirement tomorrow; and

     1     WHEREAS, On April 3, 1998, individuals across the nation will
     2  join together to call attention to the inequity between the
     3  wages of women and men; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize April
     5  3, 1998, as "National Pay Inequity Day" in Pennsylvania and
     6  encourage the people of this Commonwealth to support fair pay
     7  policies.
