A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring October 21 through 27, 2007, as "Juvenile Detention 2 Centers Week," throughout Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's 22 secure detention centers, serving 4 all 67 counties, should be recognized for their ongoing 5 protection of our communities and the care of youth in their 6 charge; and 7 WHEREAS, These facilities provide 870 beds Statewide for more 8 than 21,000 admissions to juvenile detention each year in this 9 Commonwealth; and 10 WHEREAS, The existence of these facilities is key to the 11 safety and betterment of their communities; and 12 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's Juvenile Detention Centers, adhering 13 to the Balanced and Restorative Justice model, contribute to 14 public safety by providing a stable environment for at-risk
1 youth both preadjudicated and adjudicated, providing education 2 and programming, and ensuring sufficient opportunities for 3 growth and development of Pennsylvania's youth; and 4 WHEREAS, Juvenile Detention Centers ensure every child's 5 health and well-being by providing competency development, self- 6 discipline and stabilization through comprehensive evaluations, 7 both physical and behavioral health, as well as community 8 involvement; and 9 WHEREAS, Hundreds of men and women are dedicated to ensuring 10 the proper care and supervision of the youth and are committed 11 to the protection of Pennsylvania's communities on a daily 12 basis; and 13 WHEREAS, The Juvenile Detention Centers Association of 14 Pennsylvania acts as the sole resource for these facilities, 15 offering education, representation and support for all of the 16 important services that juvenile detention centers provide for 17 this Commonwealth's youth and communities; and 18 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's Juvenile Detention Centers in 19 coordination with the Juvenile Detention Centers Association of 20 Pennsylvania merit one week of recognition for their unending 21 services aimed at protecting our communities and assisting 22 Pennsylvania's youth; therefore be it 23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare October 24 21 through 27, 2007, as "Juvenile Detention Centers Week."
