        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 2, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 13, 2007, as "Military Family Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, There are roughly 41,000 active duty military,
     4  Guard, Air Guard and Reserve personnel in Pennsylvania, not
     5  including persons who choose to leave distant military bases to
     6  return to extended families during military deployments; and
     7     WHEREAS, There is a large contingent of Federal civil service
     8  employees who work and reside in Pennsylvania and who volunteer
     9  or are directed to serve overseas in support of the war on
    10  terror; and
    11     WHEREAS, Families of persons serving in support of the war on
    12  terror make untold and anonymous sacrifices every day on behalf
    13  of their husbands, wives, sons and daughters and endure extended


     1  deployments of their loved ones; and
     2     WHEREAS, Military family members are widely scattered
     3  throughout this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, These persons often lack support systems and access
     5  to facilities available to military families living on or near
     6  major military bases; and
     7     WHEREAS, Although this Commonwealth and its communities have
     8  extended overwhelming support to deployed military members, many
     9  people are unaware that military families with unique needs
    10  reside in their communities; and
    11     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a very large veteran and retired
    12  military population whose families merit recognition for their
    13  past sacrifices; and
    14     WHEREAS, It is right and proper to express appreciation for
    15  the sacrifices of these families; and
    16     WHEREAS, All Pennsylvanians should reach out to help military
    17  families during their difficult separations; therefore be it
    18     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
    19  13, 2007, as "Military Family Day" in Pennsylvania.
