A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the month of March 2002 as "Professional Social Work 2 Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Professional social workers help groups learn about 4 and appreciate the differences that can divide friends, 5 colleagues, neighborhoods and the world; and 6 WHEREAS, Diversity is a source of pride for this country; and 7 WHEREAS, The National Association of Social Workers supports 8 an inclusive society in which racial, ethnic, sexual- 9 orientation, social and gender differences are valued and 10 respected; and 11 WHEREAS, Social workers advocate self-examination, learning
1 and change to unlearn racist beliefs and practices so that 2 people can join together in the full appreciation and 3 celebration of all their wonderful differences; and 4 WHEREAS, Social workers contend that racism is embedded in 5 our society and that, unless we identify specific instances and 6 work to eliminate them, we are part of the problem; therefore be 7 it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month 9 of March 2002 as "Professional Social Work Month" in recognition 10 of the National Association of Social Workers' principle that 11 racism at any level will not be tolerated.
