A RESOLUTION
Urging the Congress of the United States to continue its support
of Taiwan and commemorating the 45th anniversary of the
enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act.
WHEREAS, The United States and the Republic of China, known
commonly in the United States as Taiwan, share common values and
vision for the 21st century where freedom and democracy serve as
the foundation for peace, prosperity and progress; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania congratulates Taiwan's free and presidential
election on January 13, 2024, and conveys its best wishes to
President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim for
their continued success; and
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States passed the
landmark Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) in 1979 to sustain a close
bilateral relationship and to advance mutual security and
commercial interests between the United States and Taiwan; and
WHEREAS, The TRA and the Six Assurances have served as the
