                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Declaring the week of March 17 through 23, 2002, as "Emergency
2 Service Providers Week" in Pennsylvania.

3 WHEREAS, The citizens of Pennsylvania benefit daily from the
4 services, knowledge and skills of paid and volunteer emergency
5 service providers as they endure conditions that are stressful,
6 dangerous and hazardous to themselves so that they may protect
7 lives and offer security to others; and

1 WHEREAS, These people include police officers, firefighters,
2 medical and health professionals, rescue service personnel,
3 emergency service dispatchers, engineering and public utility
4 personnel, countless other public servants offering aid and
5 assistance to the public and members of the public who aid their
6 neighbors in a genuine expression of community; and
7 WHEREAS, Emergency service providers by their selfless
8 actions contribute immeasurably to the health and welfare of
9 every person they encounter while performing these deeds; and
10 WHEREAS, In recent history, we have been reacquainted with
11 their heroic deeds as this Commonwealth and country endured the
12 September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and observed the dedicated

14 Washington, D.C. and Somerset County, Pennsylvania; and
15 WHEREAS, In appreciation and recognition of the organized
16 efforts of emergency service providers and those who assist and

    19 providers; and
20 WHEREAS, Without proper recognition and support for the

24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
