        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commemorating March 2002 as "Mental Retardation Awareness Month"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, County mental retardation programs, which are
     4  completing many years of assistance to people with mental
     5  retardation and their families, are observing March 2002 as
     6  "Mental Retardation Awareness Month"; and
     7     WHEREAS, Mental retardation is defined as an impairment in
     8  cognitive development resulting in a slowness or limitation in
     9  intellectual, social or emotional development, so that people
    10  with mental retardation learn but at somewhat slower rates than


     1  other people; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives salute county
     3  mental retardation programs upon the occasion of "Mental
     4  Retardation Awareness Month" and acknowledge their exemplary
     5  services and success in promoting an understanding of the
     6  considerable contributions that citizens with mental retardation
     7  make to the quality of life in Pennsylvania; and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate March
     9  2002 as "Mental Retardation Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
