A RESOLUTION 1 Congratulating the Marine Corps League on its 65th anniversary. 2 WHEREAS, On August 4, 1937, Major General John A. Lejeune, 3 United States Marine Corps, retired, Honorary National 4 Commandant; Maurice A. Illch, National Commandant; Roy S. 5 Taylor, Senior National Vice Commandant; Kenneth B. Collings, 6 Junior Vice Commandant; Alexander F. Ormsby, National Judge 7 Advocate; Reverend John H. Clifford, National Chaplain; Edward 8 A. Walker, National Sergeant At Arms; John B. Hinckley, Jr., 9 National Adjutant and Paymaster; and John E. Brock, National
1 Chief of Staff, composed the Marine Corps League; and 2 WHEREAS, Incorporated by an act of Congress, the Marine Corps 3 League preserves the traditions and promotes the interests of 4 the United States Marine Corps by banding together persons now 5 serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have 6 been honorably discharged from that service; and 7 WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League fits its members for the 8 duties of citizenship, encourages them to serve as ably as 9 citizens as they served under arms and holds sacred the history 10 and memory of the Marines who have given their lives to the 11 nation; and 12 WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League voluntarily aids and renders 13 assistance to all Marines and former Marines as well as to their 14 survivors and dependents and perpetuates the history of the 15 United States Marine Corps through fitting acts to commemorate 16 historical occasions of interest to Marines; and 17 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania natives Wilson L. Peck (1961-1962), 18 Patrick J. Cody (1975-1976), Paul F. Hastings (1979-1981), Lamar 19 Golden (1991-1993) and Paul J. Seton (1995-1997) have served 20 with distinction as National Commandant of the Marine Corps 21 League; and 22 WHEREAS, August 4, 2002, marks the 65th anniversary of the 23 Marine Corps League's congressional incorporation authorized by 24 the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States 25 assembled at the First Session of the 75th Congress of the 26 United States and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt; 27 therefore be it 28 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 29 Marine Corps League on its 65th anniversary; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 20020H0479R3482 - 2 -
