A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the naming of the Forbes Quadrangle at the
2 University of Pittsburgh as the Wesley W. Posvar Hall.
3 WHEREAS, On July 31, 1991, Dr. Wesley W. Posvar ended his
4 service as president of the University of Pittsburgh, having
5 served with distinction in that capacity for 24 years; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Posvar, as 15th chancellor of the University of
7 Pittsburgh, left his imprint on every facet of the university,
8 overcoming severe financial difficulties to see the university
9 grow not only in size but also in influence and heightening its
10 intellectual distinction to become one of America's leading
11 institutions of research and teaching; and
12 WHEREAS, Many buildings at the university and much of the
13 growth and expansion of the university came under his
14 administration; and
15 WHEREAS, During his long and dedicated service, the
16 university gained national and international prominence; and
1 WHEREAS, Chairperson J.W. Connolly and Chancellor Mark A.
2 Nordenberg, in recognition of Dr. Posvar's service to the
3 university, have recommended that the Forbes Quadrangle be named
4 for Dr. Posvar; and
5 WHEREAS, It has been deemed appropriate that the university
6 make an exception to its policy against naming buildings for
7 living persons in order to include Dr. Wesley W. Posvar;
8 therefore be it
9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
10 naming of the Forbes Quadrangle at the University of Pittsburgh
11 as the Wesley W. Posvar Hall, effective October 21, 1999.
