        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 9, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring Shaler Township, Allegheny County, on the occasion of
     2     its centennial anniversary as a township of the first class
     3     in 2000.

     4     WHEREAS, Shaler Township is a township of the first class
     5  situate in Allegheny County; and
     6     WHEREAS, During the mid-1700's the area that became Shaler
     7  Township consisted of Big Pine Creek Valley and Girty Run Valley
     8  and served as a trading post for Indians and the French; and
     9     WHEREAS, Shaler Township was incorporated in 1847 and was
    10  named after the Honorable Judge Charles Shaler; and
    11     WHEREAS, Shaler Township originally stretched over Millvale
    12  Borough, a part of Ross Township, Etna Township, present Shaler
    13  Township and other adjoining lands; and
    14     WHEREAS, In 1868 Shaler Township lost part of its territory

     1  through the incorporation of Etna Township and Millvale Borough;
     2  and
     3     WHEREAS, In 1900 Shaler Township was incorporated as a
     4  township of the first class, with boundaries containing 6,977
     5  acres or 10.9 square miles; and
     6     WHEREAS, Shaler Township celebrates its centennial
     7  anniversary as a township of the first class in 2000; therefore
     8  be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Shaler
    10  Township, Allegheny County, on the occasion of its centennial
    11  anniversary as a township of the first class in 2000.
