A RESOLUTION
Recognizing August 17, 2024, as "International Geocaching Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The first "International Geocaching Day" was held in
2011 and occurs every year on the third Saturday of August; and
WHEREAS, Geocaching is a safe, family-friendly, outdoor
activity that involves the use of handheld GPS and a set of
coordinates to find hidden treasures in public places of
interest or historical significance; and
WHEREAS, Engaging in outdoor activities, like geocaching, has
been proven to have many physical and mental health benefits;
and
WHEREAS, The first geocache was placed in Beavercreek,
Oregon, in May 2000; and
WHEREAS, Today, there are millions of geocache sites located
on each of the seven continents, including thousands of these
sites in Pennsylvania's State parks and forests; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize August
17, 2024, as "International Geocaching Day" in Pennsylvania.
