                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of December 27, 1965 (P.L.1237, No.502),
     2     entitled "An act establishing regional correctional
     3     facilities administered by the Bureau of Correction as part
     4     of the State correctional system; establishing standards for
     5     county jails, and providing for inspection and classification
     6     of county jails and for commitment to State correctional
     7     facilities and county jails," providing for certain civil
     8     service status of employes of county workhouses and jails
     9     taken over by the Commonwealth for regional correctional
    10     facilities.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  The act of December 27, 1965 (P.L.1237, No.502),
    14  entitled "An act establishing regional correctional facilities
    15  administered by the Bureau of Correction as part of the State
    16  correctional system; establishing standards for county jails,
    17  and providing for inspection and classification of county jails
    18  and for commitment to State correctional facilities and county
    19  jails," is amended by adding a section to read:
    20     Section 3.1.  Every employe of a county workhouse or jail
    21  acquired under this act for use as a regional correctional
    22  facility holding a position, which is required to be under a

     1  merit system by reason of the receipt of Federal grants-in-aid
     2  and which is brought into the classified service under section
     3  3(d)(13), act of August 5, 1941 (P.L.752, No.286), known as the
     4  "Civil Service Act," shall be deemed to be and shall possess the
     5  rights of a regular employe under the provisions of the Civil
     6  Service Act insofar as necessary to insure the continued
     7  eligibility of the Commonwealth and its political subdivisions
     8  for such Federal grants-in-aid. Beyond such necessity, any such
     9  employe shall be required to comply with the provisions of the
    10  Civil Service Act which are applicable to the position so held.
    11     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
