A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the week of November 8 through 14, 2009, as

2

"Perioperative Nurse Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Surgery today is highly technical, sophisticated and

4

exacting; and

5

WHEREAS, The perioperative registered nurse is highly skilled

6

in providing nursing care and managing the perioperative

7

environment surgical patients need for their mind, body and

8

spirit; and

9

WHEREAS, Surgical patients and their families are

10

experiencing a major event in their lives and the perioperative

11

registered nurse is an expert in allaying patients' fears,

12

preparing patients for what will happen during surgery,

13

providing family support and discussing how patients will feel

during the entire surgical experience; and

2

WHEREAS, Perioperative registered nurses have a long

3

tradition of working toward patient safety and improving the

4

quality of patient care; and

5

WHEREAS, Surgical patients rely on the skills, knowledge and

6

expertise of perioperative registered nurses; and

7

WHEREAS, The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses

8

designates the week of November 8 through 14, 2009, as

9

Perioperative Nurse Week to recognize the nation's perioperative

10

registered nurses who care for patients before, during and after

11

surgery; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize

13

November 8 through 14, 2009, as "Perioperative Nurse Week" in

14

appreciation of the specialized skills and dedicated work of

15

perioperative nurse health care professionals to promote patient

16

safety in Pennsylvania operating rooms.
